Pet supplement OEM packaging and label checklist
Packaging affects product presentation, manufacturing scope and the information a buyer must review. Before artwork is finalized, align the intended market, product specification and packaging components with the manufacturer. This checklist helps organize questions; it does not replace market-specific regulatory review.
Six areas to confirm before approving packaging
Market and language
List intended markets and required label languages. Confirm market-specific label and claim requirements with qualified regulatory counsel; do not assume one artwork file is suitable everywhere.
Dosage form and pack
Specify liquid, chewable or powder format, target net content, container or pack preference, closure and any outer-carton needs. Ask the manufacturer to confirm feasible options for the exact product.
Product information
Confirm the current product name, model, ingredient specification, net content, directions and cautions against approved source documents before placing text into artwork.
Artwork and approvals
Identify who prepares artwork, file format, language review, revision approvals and final sign-off. Keep a dated approved proof so production uses the agreed version.
Storage and distribution
Ask for documented storage conditions, shelf-life support, package compatibility information and shipping assumptions for the selected formula and pack. Do not infer these from another SKU.
Commercial impact
Request a written quote that states pack components, printing or setup charges if applicable, MOQ assumptions, sample process and lead-time milestones. Confirm changes may affect the project scope.
Build a packaging approval record
- Keep the approved product specification and label copy together.
- Record the selected container, closure, net content and included packaging components.
- Track each artwork revision and the reviewer who approved it.
- Confirm the final proof matches the product and language versions being ordered.
- Ask the supplier to confirm in writing which approved file will be used for production.
Questions for the quotation stage
Ask which package formats are currently feasible for the project, whether minimum quantities differ by component, how artwork revisions affect timing, and which product-specific storage or package information can be documented. LANDCE lists example format starting points on its OEM / ODM page; confirm availability, technical suitability and commercial terms for your selected SKU in writing.
Prepare the rest of your project in the OEM inquiry brief. If the contract route is not yet clear, compare private label, OEM and ODM project scopes before approving ownership and responsibilities.
Do not release artwork to production until the product facts, target market, packaging scope and final proof have been reviewed by the responsible parties.
